by A Taste of Valencia: Social Excursion to Albufera and Huerto Ribera
As part of the official social programme of ICMarkTech 2025, delegates are invited to experience a full-day cultural excursion. This event combines academic networking with an authentic journey into the natural and culinary heritage of the Valencia region.
Exploring Albufera’s Natural Beauty
The day begins at 08:30 with departure from Valencia towards Albufera Natural Park. This protected area, located just outside the city, is renowned for its ecological importance and historic rice cultivation. Participants will explore its unique landscape of wetlands and lagoons, offering a peaceful contrast to the urban rhythm of the conference.
Welcome to Huerto Ribera
By 10:30, the group will arrive at the historic Huerto Ribera estate. A traditional welcome awaits, including locally brewed coffee and refreshing Valencian lemonade. Following this, a gentle walk through the estate’s citrus gardens will introduce attendees to the region’s deep agricultural roots.
Interactive Paella Workshop
At 11:20, the highlight of the day begins: a hands-on paella-making session. Guided by local chefs, participants will prepare two authentic Valencian paellas. During this activity, guests can enjoy traditional appetisers including olives, crisps, nuts, and fuet. This workshop encourages informal interaction and cross-cultural exchange in a relaxed environment.
Cultural Heritage and Local Flavours
After the cooking session, a guided tour of the finca will take place from 12:20 to 13:30. Visitors will learn more about the estate’s historical and environmental significance. At 13:30, the experience continues with a live demonstration on how to prepare Agua de Valencia, a popular local cocktail made from orange juice, cava, gin, and vodka.
Recognition and Culinary Celebration
By 13:45, participants will receive diplomas in recognition of their culinary achievements. A selection of refined starters will accompany this symbolic moment, including fresh tomato with basil and cheese, and smoked salmon served over lettuce hearts.
Lunch will begin at 14:30, featuring the paellas prepared by the group, followed by traditional desserts and local coffee.
Return and Reflections
The group will return to Valencia by approximately 16:30, concluding a meaningful and enjoyable cultural experience. This social event embodies the spirit of ICMarkTech 2025 — fostering academic connection while celebrating local traditions and human interaction.
