Carlos Alves
Carlos Alves is a researcher at Centro ALGORITMI and a PhD fellow at the University of Minho, funded by FCT. His research focuses on applying augmented reality (AR) and user experience (UX) to e-commerce, smart cities, and industry. He has worked on innovative projects like Norte-86 and Fábrica do Futuro in collaboration with Bosch. Additionally, he teaches master’s courses in web development, digital marketing, and WordPress. With a background in marketing, communication, and multimedia, he is passionate about AR, UX, and spatial computing.

Carlos Alves is a researcher at Centro ALGORITMI, one of the leading research centers in information systems and technologies, and a PhD research fellow at the University of Minho, funded by FCT, the Portuguese agency for science, technology, and innovation funding. With over four years of experience in academic and applied research, he is dedicated to exploring how augmented reality (AR) and user experience (UX) can enhance e-commerce and other solutions, such as smart cities and industrial applications.
Currently, his research focuses on applying the technology acceptance model (TAM) to mobile AR applications in e-commerce, as part of his doctoral thesis in Information Technologies at the University of Minho. At Centro ALGORITMI, he has also been involved in two innovative projects: the Norte-86 project, which aimed to develop an intelligent big data platform for the well-being of people in complex urban centers, and the Fábrica do Futuro project, which seeks to create processes, systems, and tools for flexible and high-quality industrialization in collaboration with Bosch. In addition to research, he teaches three master’s level courses covering topics such as web development, digital marketing, and WordPress.
In the past, he completed a master’s degree in marketing management at IPAM Porto and a bachelor’s degree in communication and multimedia at UTAD in Vila Real. He also obtained a technological specialization in multimedia product development at IPCA in Barcelos and a technical course in management information systems at Esprominho in Braga. Throughout his academic journey, he participated in several curricular projects and internships and worked as a public relations professional. As a freelancer, he has developed various projects in design, web design, content management, SEO, and other areas related to marketing and multimedia.
He is highly motivated to learn new skills and technologies and to collaborate with researchers, professionals, and organizations. He believes that AR, UX, and spatial computing have the potential to transform how we interact, shop, and live in the digital age.
