Timothy Jung is Chair Professor of XR and Founder/Director of the Creative AR & VR Hub and also the Knowledge Platform Lead of Operations and Digital Transformation at Manchester Metropolitan University, UK. He has been involved in a number of funded AR & VR research projects at national and international levels. He is an advisor of BirdHIVE VR & Drone project led by Lake District National Park, UK and Co-Director of AquaTravellers, a social enterprise to help raise funds for WaterAid. His research interests include AI, XR and Blockchain-powered metaverse technology innovation for well-being and quality of life.
He is renowned for his work in Augmented Reality and Virtual Reality in tourism, cultural heritage, education & training and health care and he has extensively published in these areas with over 200 journal articles, book chapters and conference papers. He co-authored 9 books including Augmented Reality and Virtual Reality, the most downloaded book in Business and Management in 2018. He has been included in the prestigious world’s top 1% Influential Researchers in Highly Cited Researchers 2023 List by Clarivate Analytics. In addition, he has been named in the world’s top 2% of the most highly cited Researchers List by Stanford University and Elsevier Publishers for two consecutive years (2022, 2023). He is a recipient of industry awards including the IAITI Best Industry Award 2023 and the Sorrento Peninsula 2022 Award and several best academic paper awards at international conferences as well as journal paper of the year awards including the Emerald Literati Award in 2018, 2019 IFITT Journal Paper of the Year Award and the Emerald Literati Award in 2020.
His research work has been covered by Manchester Evening News, TechNorth, VRFocus, TechRadar, Independent, Guardian and Huffington Post and he is a regular invited and keynote speaker at major international conferences. He is the President of the International Association of Immersive Technology Innovation (IAITI) and he is the Conference Chair of the International AR/VR/XR-Metaverse Conference 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020, 2021, 2022, 2023 and 2024.
